Both versions of the case are more or less the same, however there are a couple of differences, which I’ll describe in the article below. First off you have the construction of the case, achieved by SECC steel and plastic, nothing uncommon really. Available color is only one at this very moment – Dark metallic grey exterior with black interior. In terms of size both versions of the case are exactly the same – (WxHxD) 235x512x548mm, with only 100 grams of difference in weight, the Pro 5 is 10.7 kg and the MasterCase 5 is 10.6 kg.
FreeForm™ Modular System is a new feature allowing the end user to customize the case as he sees fit. This is why mostly thumbscrews are used in the construction of the case. Currently there are several parts available for purchase, which you may find in Cooler Master’s website and soon in other famous sites as well.
This is allowing for great case conversion depending on your needs and is surely a nice touch.
|MasterCase 5||MasterCase Pro 5|
Main difference between the two brothers is the lack of windowed left side panel, top cover and top water bracket (removable bracket for easier installation of fans/radiators) in the MasterCase 5 version. In terms of motherboard support, both are the same – ATX, m-ATX and M-ITX can be installed, 7 expansion slots, 2 x 5.25″ ODD mounts, 2 x 3.5″ HDD mounts for MasterCase 5 and 5 3.5″ HDD mounts for Pro 5 version. Up to 2+2 SSD’s in MasterCase 5 can be mounted, whereas in the Pro 5 version – 2 + 5, so again the advantage goes for Pro 5.
On the cooling side, the cases come with different configurations as well: MasterCase 5 has 2 x 140mm preinstalled, Pro 5 – 3 x 140mm. In terms of cooling fans support, both cases have the option of:
- Front: 120/140mm x 3
- Top: 120/140mm x 2
- Rear: 120/140mm x 1
Water cooling support is not forgotten and both cases can be installed with 240/280mm radiator in the front (maximum thickness of radiator without fan is 40mm). As MasterCase Pro 5 features a top mounted removable bracket it can accommodate 240mm radiator there. Rear radiator compatibility is the same for both cases – 120/140mm radiator.
CPU Cooler maximum height is a confident 190mm, which is great for tower coolers and GPU support with HDD cage in place is 296mm, removing the cage will result in this maximum length to be 412mm.
Both cases are equipped with Front/Top/Bottom dust filters for easy maintenance. On the front panel there are dual USB 3.0 ports and Audio jacks.
