Fractal Design – Focus G Series

Focus G series is a newly developed bunch of chassis in Fractal Design’s portfolio, aiming at maximum compatibility, fresh design and compact size. A rather surprising factor here is the availability of wide variety of colors designated for Focus G – Black, White, Petrol Blue, Mystic Red, and Gunmetal Gray. Focus G mini comes in black only, however it still has surprises.

Focus G comes with physical dimensions of (W)205mm x (H)431mm x (D)450mm, 39.8 L of space that is and weight of 4.5 kg., extremely light and versatile. A large transparent acrylic window will show off your hardware at all times, with the lovely additional light coming from the fans. Total of 7 expansion slots are available here in the Focus G, while motherboard compatibility is also future proof with the support of ATX, mATX, ITX motherboard sizes. As mentioned, the cooling side of things is also a focus here with room to spare:

  • Front fan: 2 x 120mm or 2 x 140mm, Silent Series LL 120mm LED fans included
  • Top fan: 2x 120mm
  • Rear fan: 1x 120mm
  • Bottom fan: 1x 120mm

Several dust filters are available on the front, top and base air intakes to keep your interior free of unwanted dust. 18 – 25 mm of space for cable routing behind the motherboard plate will give you enough space while building to keep things neat.

Liquid cooling is also possible with the Focus G, great support in that department:

  • Front radiator: 120/240mm 140/280mm Limitation: 280 requires that the bottom 5.25″ slot is unused
  • Top radiator: 240mm
  • Rear radiator: 120mm (max width 120mm)

Additionally, given the size of the case we also have pretty decent space to install CPU cooler, GPUs and PSU, coming in at respectively 165mm for the cooler, 380mm for the maximum length of the graphics card and 230mm of length for the PSU. Storage-wise this enclosure is able to provide 2 interchangeable 3.5″/2.5″ bays and one dedicated SSD mount. Vibration dampeners are in place to reduce any resonant sounds, thus lowering the perception of noise.

On the other end, Focus G mini is the little “bro” that also comes with a large interior display capability in the face of acrylic window. Storage-wise we have the same options as Focus G, but the form factor here is of a mini tower, supporting mATX and ITX motherboards only. Physical dimensions here are (W)195mm x (H)370mm x (D)450mm, 32.5 liters of space and 400 grams less in weight at 4.1 kg. Minor change in the fan department is also present, with only 1 x 140mm fan support at the front.

Front fan: 2 x 120mm or 1 x 140mm, Silent Series LL 120mm LED fans included Top fan: 2x 120mm Rear fan: 1x 120mm Bottom fan: 1x 120mm

Both cases have been made out of steel and plastic panels and quality should be on an excellent level given the origin of the chassis – Fractal Design.

Water cooling options here are also the same, which is impressive for a compact case:

  • Front radiator: 120/240mm 140mm Limitation: 240 requires that the bottom 5.25″ slot is unused
  • Top radiator: 240mm
  • Rear radiator: 120mm (max width 120mm)

Focus G mini keeps the same dust filtered environment with front, top and base filters, also the same space restrictions as Focus G – CPU cooler height 165mm maximum, GPU length of 380mm and PSU with 230mm maximum length.

Both cases have the front I/O panel installed with USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and audio jacks.
