Gelid Solutions have just released their new Phantom CPU coolers. As of now there is no official MSRP for the products, most probably because they are not yet purchasable. Either way these new models are only distinguishable by their colours. The ‘Phantom’ has a black body and a white fan,while the ‘Phantom Black’ is the one with a white body and a black fan. Surprisingly good is the fact, that both coolers come with a 5 year warranty out of the box. Although, even better, is that they support the latest CPU’s from Intel and AMD. The sockets of the CPU’s they can support are: Intel-Socket 775, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011, 1150 &1151 AMD-Socket AM2/ AM2+/ AM3/ AM3+/ AM4 / FM1 & FM2. Sadly Socket 2011 is the only socket that requires a separately bought mounting clip.
Now lets take a look at these rather similar coolers. Gelid has been kind enough to write a design concept which is the following:
”The Phantom features a masterpiece of top-notch cooling technologies. The unique constellation of 7 optimized power heat pipes, the advanced 2-tower heatsink and the 2 silent 120mm fans with Smart PWM all deliver ultimate thermal performance. The support of TDP over 200W makes the Phantom an overkill CPU cooling solution for pro gamers and overclockers.”
Now onto the specifications of each model:
Air Flow (CFM / CMH): 65.5 /111.35 max. Bearing: Hydro Dynamic Bearing Cable Length (mm): 500 Current (A): 0.25 max DC Voltage (V): 12 Fan Dimensions (mm): 120 (l) x 120 (w) x 25 (h) Fan Life Time MTTF at 40C (h): 50000 Fan Speed (RPM): 750 – 1600 Heat Sink & Fan Dimensions (mm): 118 (l) x 126 (w) x 160 (h) Noise Level (dBA): 12 – 26.7 Static Pressure (mmAq): 2.18 Warranty (years): 5 Weight (g): 1020 (Heatsink & 2 Fans)
|Air Flow (CFM / CMH):||65.5 /111.35 max.|
|Bearing:||Hydro Dynamic Bearing|
|Cable Length (mm):||500|
|Current (A):||0.25 max|
|DC Voltage (V):||12|
|Fan Dimensions (mm):||120 (l) x 120 (w) x 25 (h)|
|Fan Life Time MTTF at 40C (h):||50000|
|Fan Speed (RPM):||750 – 1600|
|Heat Sink & Fan Dimensions (mm):||118 (l) x 126 (w) x 160 (h)|
|Noise Level (dBA):||12 – 26.7|
|Static Pressure (mmAq):||2.18|
|Weight (g):||1020 (Heatsink & 2 Fans)|
As you can see the two models have exactly the same specifications,but one thing differs. The Phantom Black is the only model to feature Black Nickel Plating. Anyways, there the are still more things to be said about these models. Such as, the 2 ”smart ” PWM fans that aim to provide the best balance between airflow and silent operation. Equally, the coolers have support for a third aftermarket fan,making for a cheap and worthwhile upgrade.
Overall Gelid Solution’s new release looks promising. What do you think about them?
